Some people choose to make a 'lifetime commitment' to each other rather than have a legally binding Marriage.

A Commitment Ceremony can have the same meaning to the couple without being legally binding & for this reason many same-sex couples choose this option - same-sex marriages are not legal in Australia.

 Because it has no legal requirements a Commitment Ceremony can be as personal as you like or it can take the same form as a formal marriage, including readings,  vows & music.
